New Beers This Week

Back in stock: Mikkeller Black Hole, Mikkeller Chipotle Porter, Mikkeller It’s Alive, To Ol Goliat, To Ol Jule Maelk, To Ol Nordic by Nature, Jester King El Cedro, Jester King Le Petit Prince, Stone Double Bastard in the Rye.

Mikkeller Red & White Christmas – Comes in both 750mL and 1.5L bottles! A hybrid between an imperial red ale and a Belgian witbier, with a hefty amount of American hops and bitter tropical orange peel. 8% ABV/Copenhagen, Denmark/Ratebeer 97/Availability: decent

Mikkeller Mexas Ranger – Austin’s two favorite things – tacos and beer – come together in this insane Mikkeller new release. How’s this for an adjunct list? Spices, almond milk, cocoa, chiles, black beans and avocado leaves. Now that may sound ridiculous, but this drinks like a stout with a higher ABV than the 6.6% it is listed as. The cocoa comes through, with a slight bit heat from the chiles. Challenging and complex. 6.6% ABV/Copenhagen, Denmark/Ratebeer 99/Availability: limited

Community Oaked Mosaic – Regular readers of this newsletter know how big of fans we are of Community’s beers. Their big & juicy Mosaic IPA gets aged on toasted oak spirals post fermentation to infuse wonderful notes of honey, vanilla, toast and oak to compliment the herbal and citrusy hop profile. 8.6% ABV/Dallas, TX/No ratings yet/Availability: limited

Strangeland Noir Belge – Billed as a Belgian Imperial Stout, I’m unable to find really any information online about this one. Have no fear, we’ll be putting it in our Friday tasting so you can taste it before you buy it! 8.9% ABV/Austin, TX/No ratings yet/Availability: plenty

5 Stones Home for the Holidays* – 5 Stones will be delivering their holiday seasonal this Friday. It’s a farmhouse ale brewed with cranberries, cinnamon sticks and orange zest. 6.2% ABV/Cibolo, TX/No ratings yet/Availability: plenty/*Arriving Friday

Cascade Kriek – Cascade Brewing out of Portland just launched last week and they make some extremely small batch barrel aged sours refermented on fruit. If you like Jester King’s fruited sours, these will be right up your alley. The Kriek spends over 6 months of lactic fermentation and aging in small oak barrels. This “Belgian Flanders Style Red Ale” is refermented with a blend of fresh whole Northwest cherries and then hand bottled. 8.5% ABV/Portland, OR/Ratebeer 98/Availability: extremely limited

Cascade Blackberry – Cascade Blackberry is made in an identical fashion to the kriek above, starting with lactic fermentation in oak barrels. It then gets an addition and refermentation on fresh whole Pacific Northwest Blackberries before bottling. 7% ABV/Portland, OR/Ratebeer 96/Availability: extremely limited

Lakewood Sin Mint Temptress* – That’s right, we’ll be getting plenty of Lakewood’s ode to thin mint cookies as a twist on their ever-popular Temptress imperial milk stout. Mint is added for a rich and delicious finish. Comes in bomber format… no limit! 9.1% ABV/Garland, TX/Ratebeer 97/Availability: plenty/*Arriving Friday

Avery Czar – Avery’s annual Czar Russian Imperial Stout is always big, bold and rich. Flavors of English toffee, rich mocha, sweet molasses and candied currants. Will cellar very well. 10.1% ABV/Boulder, CO/Ratebeer 99/Availability: very limited

Founders Project Pam – The latest in the backstage series from Founders sounds pretty darn good. They took a heavily hopped black IPA and aged it in maple syrup bourbon barrels to add oaky bourbon notes as well as maple syrup sweetness. Like Keanu Reeves says… whoaaaaa. 10.8% ABV/Grand Rapids, MI/Ratebeer 100/Availability: extremely limited

Great Divide Oak Aged Yeti – Oak aging of Yeti Imperial Stout gives a subtle vanilla character, rounding out Yeti’s intense roastiness and huge hoppy nature. 9.5% ABV/Denver, CO/Ratebeer 100/Availability: decent
