WhichCraft was founded in 2014 by Jody Reyes, a native of the Pacific Northwest who grew up going to breweries during the craft beer boom of the early 2000’s. Jody and his wife Melissa moved to Austin in 2013 right as the Craft Brewers’ Guild was working with the state legislature to pass a suite of laws making it easier for new breweries to start up in Texas and to sell their beers directly to consumers via taprooms.

These legislative changes ignited a craft beer explosion in Texas, with new breweries opening up by the dozens over the next few years.

In Austin, no one had yet opened up a dedicated craft beer bottle shop that attempted to curate the quickly expanding packaged beer and cider options for customers. Jody’s background in customer service and retail operations was a perfect combination to test this model.

The original South Lamar location opened in April 2014 exists for 4 years selling package-only beer and cider to thirsty Austin drinkers.

Jody and his partners opened an expanded location in 2016 in the fast-growin Mueller neighborhood of Austin that offered 30 taps for on-site consumption, a vast packaged beer, wine and cider assortment, as well as a full specialty coffee program along with food. That location continues to operate today as the neighborhood has matured around us.

Today WhichCraft is firmly entrenched in the Austin beer scene as one of the few places customers can still come interact with staff for product recommendations and a curated selection of quality craft beer from around the world.
