Karbach is finally launching their packaged beer (bottles/cans) in Austin, and we’re excited to be the retail launch partner the day the cans hit town!  We’ll have Jeff Menowsky from the brewery in the house dishing out samples of all the excellent beers you’ve been drinking on draft for the past few months but which you’ll now be able to drink from your couch.  Join us!

Thursday, October 23rd

We’re ridiculously excited to host Jeffrey Stuffings, founder & owner of Jester King, who will be signing bottles and sampling out a few things.  It’s Austin Beer Week-eve and we’re kicking off the 10 day event of awesomeness the right way.  We’ll be tasting Fen Tao, Nocturn Chrysalis & Atrial Rubicite (free samples only, none for sale), in addition to a few others.  We’ll also be releasing a case each of Noble King, Orange/Grapefruit Provenance, Das Wunderkind, le Petit Prince, El Cedro & Wytchmaker. We definitely encourage you to bring in your own bottles for Jeff to sign as well.  Don’t miss this one.

New Beers This Week

Founders Dark Penance Imperial Black IPA – A heavy malt foundation includes Crystal malt for sweetness and just enough Midnight Wheat malt to push the color to black. The bitterness is huge, but balanced by malt sweetness and alcohol burn. The hop flavors and aromas range from citrus to floral to pine thanks to a delicious blend of hand-selected Chinook and Centennial hops.  8.9% ABV/Grand Rapids, MI/Ratebeer 97

Lagunitas Little Sumpin Wild – A Belgian-yeasted version of the highly popular Little Sumpin Sumpin.  Aggressively hopped but the Belgian yeast adds a bit of fruity esters and funkiness for a different take on an IPA.  8.8% ABV/Petalum, CA/Ratebeer 98

Stone Coffee Milk Stout – A very uncharacteristic release from Stone, this beer is even on the palate, bringing on a hint of coffee with a highly drinkable yet quite modest backdrop of chocolate and roasty notes. At a mere 4.2% ABV, it’s the lowest-alcohol bottled beer Stone has released in 15 years aside from a Mild ale in 2009.  Lactose is present but not overpowering. 4.2% ABV/Escondido, CA/Ratebeer 93

Abita Imperator – Abita Imperator is a robust, black IPA brewed with pale, caramel, chocolate and black malts. It commands your attention with an intense hop flavor and aroma provided by Apollo, Cascade, Centennial, Citra, Mosaic and Amarillo hops.  8% ABV/Abita Springs, LA/Beer Advocate 84

Victory Moving Parts English IPA – The 2nd in the rotating IPA series from Victory, this English-style IPA features pleasantly sharp sweetness from the crystal malt which precedes herbal notes of cedar and green tea. The bright hop flavors in this light copper ale are distinctly English to start, finishing with lingering aromas of earthy hops.  6.4% ABV/Downington, PA/Beer Advocate 88

Firestone Walker Velvet Merlin – A decadent Oatmeal Stout brimming with cocoa and espresso aromas. This beer features a rich, dark chocolate and roasted coffee flavor with a creamy mouth feel and wonderfully dry finish. The addition of U.S. grown fuggles hops contributes the perfect amount of bitterness to this exceptionally balanced beer.  5.5% ABV/Paso Robles, CA/Ratebeer 98

Solid Rock Big Drought Stout – The latest release from local folks Solid Rock Brewing is a dry Irish stout which is a dark, black ale with a complex roasted coffee-chocolate character. It is a perfectly balanced marriage of malt sweetness and hops, a light body with a gorgeous head. The hops used provide a traditional mellow bitterness in a supporting role. The finish is smooth and dry.  4% ABV/Spicewood, TX/No ratings yet

Sierra Nevada Wet Hop Harvest – Each fall, hops reach their peak flavor-bursting with aromatic oils that give ales layers of complex flavor and aroma that can only happen at harvest time. For Sierra Nevada, fall comes twice a year – once in each hemisphere. This Harvest Ale features “wet” or un-dried whole-cone hops from Yakima, WA that are plucked from the vine and delivered to our brewery within 24 hours of picking.  6.7% ABV/Chico, CA/Ratebeer 99

Dogfish Head Bitches’ Brew – In honor of the 40th anniversary of the original release of Bitches Brew, Miles Davis’ 1970 paradigm-shifting landmark fusion breakthrough, Dogfish created their own Bitches Brew – a bold, dark beer that’s a fusion of three threads of imperial stout and one thread of honey beer with gesho root.  9% ABV/Milton, DE/Ratebeer 99

Rogue Pumpkin Patch Ale – The newest addition to the Chatoe Rogue series is Pumpkin Patch Ale, a beer made using fresh pumpkins grown in a patch that borders Rogue’s 42 acre hop yard. The pumpkins are picked, loaded into Rogue’s farm truck, driven immediately 77 miles to our brewery in Newport, quickly roasted, and pitched into the brew kettle to create a batch of Pumpkin Patch Ale. 5.6% ABV/Newport, OR/Ratebeer 92
