This Week’s New Craft Beers at WhichCraft – 5/9/14

This week we received a ton of new shipments of craft beer from Texas, the US and the world.  Read below for our reviews and write ups of all of these unique beers.

1. Prairie Artisan Ales Wine Barrel Noir – This is a huge imperial stout aged in red wine barrels. It’s like drinking an awesome stour and an awesome glass of pinot noir at the same exact time! 10% ABV, limit of (1) per customer Krebs, OK

2. 5 Stones Flower Child – Summer Ale using spice and sugar found in many Mexican desserts. Made with chamomile flower, piloncillo sugar, and lemon zest to make a dark colored but light drinking ale. Cibolo, TX

3. 5 Stones Manmosa – Don’t let the name fool you! Manmosa is yet another delicious summer beer made with tons of fresh oranges and orange zest that gives it loads of orange citrusy aroma and flavor. Cibolo, TX

4.  Real Ale Brewing Company Brewer’s Cut Double IPA – This edition of Brewer’s Cut reveals a copper colored double IPA that boasts 95 IBU’s and a nose filled with Simcoe hops. If you need any more reasons to drink this, you need another beer. Blanco, TX

5. Real Ale Brewing Company Sisyphus Barleywine Style Ale – Intense and warming, Sisyphus was Real Ale’s first seasonal product. A healthy portion of hops balances the rich toffee undertones of the malt. Weighing in around 11% ABV, Sisyphus Barleywine is not for the faint of heart – makes a great nightcap! Blanco, TX

6. Stone Brewing Company Saison – This spring-to-summer saison is citrusy and herbal on the palate with a dry, peppery finish. 6% ABV and a Stone twist to the saison style makes this beer definitely worth trying! Escondido, CA

7. Austin Eastciders Original Dry Cider – They are calling Eastciders Original a fusion of Old World and New World cider styles, but really it’s just a great cider to lie in the pool with on a 110 degree day in Austin! This dry cider is made locally and now available in cans! Austin, TX

8. Saint Arnold Boiler Room Berliner Weisse – Texans have started to grasp berliner weisse as a style that is perfect for our summers and delicious to our sour craving! Boiler Room is a light bodied but surprisingly flavorful sour wheat beer. The sourness is created by souring the wort prior to boiling and fermentation (unlike Belgian-style sours which sour during fermentation and have active bacteria in them when packaged). Houston, TX

9. Firestone Walker Brewing Company Easy Jack Summer Session IPA – Brewmaster Matt Brynildson went to the mountain and returned with a vision for a different kind of Session IPA, one that would be brewed and dry hopped with a globetrotting selection of new hop varieties from Europe, New Zealand and North America. He foresaw a beer that would deliver massive hop aromas, a signature malt balance and an empty glass before you knew what hit you. 4.5% ABV Paso Robles, CA

10. Goose Island Brewing Company Matilda Belgian Strong Pale Ale – This 7% ABV is a golden sunrise color, baking spice aroma, fruity biscuity malt flavor, and dry body. Now available in 4 packs! Chicago, IL

11. Goose Island Brewing Company Sofie Belgian Style Saison – This beer is 80% Belgian Style Ale, 20% Belgian Style Ale aged in wine barrels with citrus peel. Champagne color, white pepper aroma, citrus & vanilla flavor, sparkling body. 6.5% ABV Chicago, IL

12. Uinta Brewing Company Anniversary Barley Wine Ale – This 10.4% ABV barley wine is one to be reckoned with. Rich and complex, this all malt barley wine exhibits hints of dried fruits, toffee and caramel balanced by an abundance of American hops. Salt Lake City, UT

13. Odell Brewing Company Lugene Chocolate Milk Stout – Brewed with milk sugar and milk chocolate. The rich and creamy brew reminds us of a cold glass of chocolate milk…but with 8.5% alcohol! Fort Collins, CO

14. South Austin Brewery LuckenBock – This brew goes back to the basics with real caramel malts and a lagering process worthy of German discipline. 7% ABV and available in 16 oz cans! Austin, TX

15. South Austin Brewery Kol’ Beer – This is a brand new Kolsch style beer will quench your thirst of German styles in Texas! Easy drinking and best served verycold to combat our heat waves. Austin, TX

16. South Austin Brewery Original TPA – This is a IPA without the booziness! Clocking in at 5.5% ABV, they call this a ‘Texas Pale Ale’, a beer worthy of our hop cravings and comes in a can so you can enjoy it by the pool or by the river! Austin, TX

17. Brasserie De Silly Sour Ale – Silly Sour is finally available! This sour beer has notes of cherries, sour apples, malt, toast, biscuit, raisins, dark fruits and spices. Taste follows the nose and is deliciously tart! This will quench your sour cravings! 5.5% ABV Silly, Belgium

18. Port Barrel Aged Scotch Silly – This is a 2013 limited edition Scottish Style Ale aged in port wine barrels. Soft and silky mouthfeel but balanced by the malts and faint heat of barrel aging. If you love Scotch Ales and wine barreled beers, you will love this! 9% ABV Silly, Belgium

19. Guadalupe Brewing Company Chocolate Stout – This beer has a smooth drinkable appeal. Made with cocoa nibs and American oak with bourbon, the complexity on this beer makes it a very unique chocolate stout! 7.2% ABV New Braunfels, TX

20. Guadalupe Brewing Company Honey Ale – Golden honey colored with a creamy white head. Incredibly crisp as it enters your mouth turning into a creamy, smooth, and honey flavored ending. Texas honey is used in this gem with part of the proceeds benefiting Texas A&M Bee Research. 7.3% ABV New Braunfels, TX

21. Guadalupe Brewing Company Scotch Ale – Beautiful rich mahogany with off white head. Some of the best grain available out of the UK builds this striking malt backbone. Aged on American Oak the aroma and flavor are mind blowing. New Braunfels, TX

22. Dr. Fritz Briem 13th Century Grut Bier – This beer is brewed according to recipes dating back to before the German Purity Law in 1516! An interpretation of a traditional Grut ale brewed with bay leaves, ginger, caraway fig, anise fig, rosemary, and gentian. A truly unique beer with only 4.6% ABV. Munich, Germany

23. Utah Brewers Cooperative Wasatch Beers Ghostrider White IPA – This is a beer built around a traditional American IPA with a twist. Using super pale malted barley and wheat to keep the color very light, white you might say! Load of citrusy American hops combined with a touch of coriander give this dry hopped IPA wonderful complexity in aroma and flavor. 6% ABV and available in six pack cans!Salt Lake City, UT

24. Utah Brewers Cooperative Squatters Beers Hop Rising Double IPA – Big hop, big malt, big beer. One of the most aggressive beers ever released in Utah, Hop Rising a double India Pale Ale, clocks in at 75 IBU’s and 9% alcohol. Using three different malts to create enough flavor to perfectly balance three varieties of hops and then dry hopped; resulting in an amazing two pounds of hops per barrel! The combination of robust malty flavors and huge hop bitterness provide a well-balanced beer; a hop lover’s dream. Salt Lake City, UT

25. Harviestoun Brewery Old Engine Oil Engineer’s Reserve Blackest Ale – A mouthful both in title and in taste. A very viscous, malt chocolate and roasty ale clocking in at 9% ABV. This is a beer to either cellar or drink with friends, because it is dangerous to drink by yourself! Hillfoots Village, Scotland

26. Boulevard Brewing Company Saison Brett – Saison-Brett, based on the very popular Tank 7, is assertively dry hopped, then bottle conditioned with various yeasts, including Brettanomyces, a wild strain that imparts a distinctive earthy quality. Though this farmhouse ale was given three months of bottle age prior to release, further cellaring will continue to enhance the “Brett” character, if that’s what you’re after. 8.5% ABV Kansas City, MO

27. Schmaltz Brewing Company Hop Manna IPA – This beer is a super hop forward IPA dry hopped with Centennial, Cascade, and Citra hops. This floral and citrusy beer boasts 65 IBU’s and 6.8% ABV. Clifton Park, NY
